Villar del Rey - Badajoz - Extremadura

Location

The estate of 50.000 sqm is located at the outskirts of the population of Villar del Rey,30 km from Badajoz, population located in the foothills of the Natural Reserve of San Pedro´s mountain range,which turns it into an unique place to enjoy calmness, walk and enjoy nature in an environment of big pastures and mountain ranges widely populated with oak trees and blockheads, big spots of rockroses, strawberry trees and heathers, high crests of the mountain range wherethe big greedy birds and wild fauna shelter with predominance of the Wild boar, the Deer, the Roe-deer and the Fallow deer, as well as the Partridge, the Rabbit, the Hare, the Thrush, and so on that delight the hunter.

Characteristics of the Estate

The estate was created in 1847 by a famous pharmacist coming from another place, who loving the environment and appreciatingthe kindness of its climatology, protected fromthe airs of the north, sow medicinal plants that he used in his recipes compounds, reason why he decided to build the house where he would spend long time and his last years.

The estate is a market-garden of very fertile lands surrounded by few altitude hills thatpreserve itfrom winds and winter frosts, allowing the sow of market-garden products and fruit trees that need very moderate and stable climate during the whole year.

20 % of the estate is sowed with diverse fruit trees, and thanks to the kindness of its climatology provide good crops of sweet oranges, figs, pears, lemons, and so on. Typical market-garden vegetables, like tomatoes, peppers, garlic, onions, cabbages, spinach, an so on are also sowed, irrigated by own water of the estate.

Nevertheless the estate also has water connection from of the town´s public network being this water itself, very rich in water well andwater stream from nearby fountain.

The Olive Grove

A bit more than 3 hectares of land are dry olive groves in the low hill that surrounds the market-garden. They are high production olive trees of own olives to turn into high quality oil, being the whole region well-known by this high quality oil as it has olive tradition that alternates with the big pastures of pigs and bulls, specially of the Iberian Pork.

The Gardens

The estate has a very ancient water wheel, kept nowadays in perfect condition as decorative pattern, since water is extracted by automated extraction pump. There is alsokept an aqueduct that in its time (it was constructed more than a 100 years ago) providedwater to the market-garden and the fruit trees, and that today is used to water the garden, to supply the swimming pool and enjoy the noise the water conduction provides all its way, as well as the freshness and humiditythe water flow provides on its way through the whole garden.

The whole garden is an exotic set that reminds of the Romanesque style, with beautiful walks covered by thick climbing plants that give freshness and agreeable smell under the shades their leaves and flowers that end up at a nice arbour where one enjoys the agreeable breeze of the summer nights.

All floors and corridors crossing the garden are black granite slate, plentiful inthe area,where the most prestigious mine of this prototype of granite is located, unique in Spain.

The loveliness, beauty and aromas of the Azar flower that the orange trees spread, invite to have a siesta in the spring, to relax in summer at midday hours, and the late afternoon to the shade of the palms close to the swimming pool, listening to the murmur of the water flow through the canals of the aqueduct.

The Constructions

The estate has an outer front of more than 300 m., made ofwhitewashed stone walls,3 m.high, which isolate the state from looks and views from the outside,providing an walled ground ofunrivalled privacy and peace.

Its main entry protected by a great large door of wrought to two leafs iron,showsthe exquisiteness and good majestic taste the estate has always enjoyed,leading to the single floor main house,to the garden, to the market-garden, and to the rest of the facilities.

The main house with sitting-room with kitchen area and another living-roomwith both wood fireplaces, bedrooms and toilets, is cosy in winter and fresh in summer. As the other two floors house, it was built in 1847 and restored recently, being kept in perfect state and in conditions of habitability with thick walls, high roofs, black granite slate floors, and so on , giving a majestic air, unique in the region.

Other outstanding facilities and with their own accesses, are the parking for several vehicles, and the cattle facilities very suitable for becoming horse stables with their own land for riding school and taming of the animals.
